This is Robert Harvey’s debut solo album, a seven times All Ireland Champion Robert comes from Mountrath, Co. Laois, he studied music in Trinity College Dublin and Conservatory of Music and Drama at DIT, where he graduated with first class honours and was presented with the President’s Gold Medal for Academic Excellence in 2010. Robert recently completed PhD research on Traditional Composition in the East Galway Style.
Showcasing a variety of tunes sourced from collections made by O'Neill, Goodman, Fleischmann, Joyce, Petrie and Kerr, in addition to more recent compositions, Feochán was recorded live in Tyrrelstown House over three days in 2019. On this album, Robert sets out to explore the interpretive and expressive possibilities inherent across a range of flutes, ably accompanied on harp, guitar, piano, harmonium and bodhrán.
The title of the CD “Feocháin: The Glentle Breeze” is from a haunting Air of the same name composed by the renowned fiddle player and composer, the late great Tommy Peoples.
This CD is a must have for any Irish wooden flute enthusiast.
