Cois na hAbhna mourns the passing of Seán McMahon

It is with great sadness that we bring you the news of the passing of Seán McMahon, Ballyroughan, Kilmurry, Quin, Co. Clare. Seán was an active member of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann in Co. Clare for many years, he was a founding member of the Kilmurry branch of Comhaltas, and he helped in the building of Cois na hAbhna where he served as chairman of the Committee in the 1980s. An accomplished traditional singer he performed regularly with Dan Liddy’s Seisiún group around the county throughout the 1980s. He was a member of the Ennis Singer’s club, and he was also a guest at many singing clubs around Ireland. In 2005 he published his first solo album of traditional songs to great acclaim, entitled “ The beautiful Vale of Belvoir” He will be sadly missed by his many friends in the traditional music community in Co. Clare and beyond. We extend our sincere sympathies to his wife Maureen, children and extended family.
