TTCT 2019 Teastas i dTeagasc Ceolta Tíre CCÉ’s Teacher Diploma Course

Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann’s TTCT Teacher Training Course has over 800 graduates throughout Ireland and overseas. The course which has been in existence since 1980 has been specifically designed to equip teachers of Irish traditional music to teach more effectively in a wide variety of community settings. This residential course is highly subscribed and applications are received from candidates both nationally and internationally.

Amongst the subject areas included in this intensive course are:

Special Educational Needs and Irish Traditional Music lSlow Airs lSCT as a teaching/learning framework and slow airs as part of the traditional repository CCÉ Child Protection Guidelines l Planning for the CCÉ Branch Music Education Programme & Core Branch Repertoire Teaching practice sessions which are mentored and comprise a significant part of the course Irish traditional music and traditional music education and pedagogy Instrument methodologyl Musical literacy and analysis Accompaniment General principles of education, teaching and transmission l Teaching and learning styles Class management & preparation

The course director is Martin Power and the ratio of assessors/tutors to candidate allows for very significant levels of staff support.

The TTCT Course for 2019 will take place from Sunday 27 October – Saturday 2 November at an Chultúrlann and applications are presently being accepted for applicants specialising in fiddle, flute, whistle, concertina, button accordion, harp, banjo and uilleann pipes. The closing date for applications is 16 August and all eligible applicants will be requested to attend for audition and interview 31 August.

Alternate provision for audition and interview is made in exceptional cases. Details on eligibility accompany the application form.

It is recommended that applicants have some teaching experience at the time of applying and we would ask CCÉ units to facilitate prospective applicants in terms of acquiring such experience, as is feasible, e.g. in a mentored or assistant role or as is appropriate. Places are allocated on the basis of date of application and the audition/ interview process. Accordingly interested parties should start their application process as soon as possible.
