Garrett Barry the blind piper of Inagh

A plaque will be unveiled by Labhrás Ó Murchú Ard Stiúrthóir Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann to mark the house where Garrett Barry the legendary blind piper from Inage was born. The ceremony will take place on Monday 15th August 2016 at Kylea, Inagh, Co Clare. A very special tribute concert is also organised by Howard Marshal at the Garrett Barry Memorial Hall in Inagh on Wednesday 17th August at 8.pm. This concert, of the finest music and song will feature a veritable who’s who of musicians from the Irish traditional music world. It will also mark the release of a much anticipated book chronicling the life of Garrett Barry entitled “Out of Darkness” the blind piper of Inagh, by Howard Marshal. The book intricately weaves the history, people and places of west Clare with story and legend to provide the first written account of Garrett Barry, the blind piper of Inagh. We are introduced to those who knew Barry as well as those who have carried his memory, ensuring that his rich contribution to local culture resonates still in the music of his homeland. Beautifully illustrated with photography by Ben Taylor, Out of Darkness guides us through a world that has retained abiding traditions in poetry, folklore, music, dance and song. Tickets at €20 are available from Oireacht an Chláir, Miltown Malbay, and at Custy's Music Shop Ennis.The concert is part of the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann celebrations.
