Macalla 1916 Celebrating the Centenary of the 1916 Rising

An Echo of the Past…. a Vision for the Future

Macalla 1916 is a new suite of music specially commissioned by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann to mark the centenary of the Easter Rising. Composed by Michael Rooney and complemented by narration, verse, song and compelling images from the period, Macalla 1916 takes us on a musical journey through the events and influences that led inevitably to that momentous Easter week, while also reflecting on the aftermath of the Rising and it’s continuing influence in the Ireland of today. The suite is performed by The Comhaltas National Folk Orchestra of Ireland comprising over 60 of the finest young traditional and classical musicians from all over Ireland and the UK, accompanied by All-Ireland winning traditional singers Shauna McGarrigle and Tadhg Maher, with narration by broadcaster Ciana Campbell and well known actor Diarmuid de Faoite.

The suite will be performed in The Lime Tree Theatre, Mary Immaculate College, Courtbrack Ave. (off Dock Road) Limerick on Wednesday 30th March 2016. To reserve tickets call 061 774774 boxoffice@limetreetheatre.ie www.limetreetheatre.ie
