Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann Céilí with Matt Cunningham Céilí Band
Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann Céilí with Matt Cunningham Céilí Band on Sunday 21st August starting at 9.30.
Matt Cunningham from Co Galway, has become a household name in the Irish music world, one of the most popular performers within the set & céilí dancing traditions and a pioneer where his recordings for dancers are concerned. To date, Matt has recorded music for 89 sets, 15 céilí dances & 15 two-hand dances. Indeed Matt’s recordings are responsible in their own way for the preservation and popularisation of set & céilí dancing across the globe through the Dance Music of Ireland series. In 2015 Matt celebrated 50 years in the music business and 30 years working as a music teacher. To mark these milestones TG4 broadcast a special hour-long documentary on the musical life of Matt Cunningham on Christmas night last year, while Irish TV aired a similar programme on St. Stephen’s Night reaching his many followers in the UK. In addition to having played in many parts of the world with his band, Matt has also entertained such people as Pope John Paul II & the Kennedy family. He continues to teach music today across a variety of instruments. He has passed the gift of music on to a vast amount of children in the Galway-Mayo region over the 30 year period. He also continues to perform both in and outside of Ireland with engagements throughout Europe and North America in 2016/17. We look forward to Matt performing at the upcoming All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil Céili here in Cois na hAbhna, and he will be accompanied by some of his family and long serving members of the band. Dancing 9.30 – 12.30. For more Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann information, go to www.fleadhcheoil.ie
